Remembering The Good Days
A Memory of Hyde.
I was born in milk street Hyde in the 40's went to Greenfield Street Juniors then onto Leigh street Secondary, I so remember Hetts sweet shop the ABC minors at the Stannies, the market, woolworths, the house that jack built, the May queen and whit walks when we all got dressed up, even with little money, we looked our best, I remember tide marks, round the neck and down the arms due to smogs etc, we didn't get baths very often, I remember our green tin bath hanging up in the kitchen, I remember how people were so house proud in those days, dolly blue, washing boards. Savoury ducks from the tripe stall on the market and especially meschias and the godley rock and aniseed from the market hall, yes they were very special to me and I still look at the house where I was born opposite the carpark that was once port street, and wish times were as good.
