Ifield, The Village 1905

More about this scene
Crawley's expansion as a planned New Town after 1947 took in hamlets right up to Ifield. It was a small and sleepy Sussex village, until then remote in the rolling landscape of the western Weald, a landscape of small dense hedged fields and oak trees. Behind the photographer is now the Ifield neighbourhood of Crawley New Town, but looking towards the church of this tiny hamlet the view is virtually unchanged.
