More about this scene
This is a classic site for a church - on a hillock that is easy to defend. The Memorial Gardens, with a granite column topped with the bronze-winged figure of Victory, were opened by Lord Fortescue in 1924. Bronze panels commemorate the 157 men of the parish who fell in World War I; more panels were later added in memory of the 59 who died in World War II.
