Lantern Hill and the Chapel of St Nicholas are not just a focal point for visitors; for centuries the light on the chapel was a vital navigational aid for mariners. It was considered so important that as early as the 16th century Bishop Veysey granted indulgences to anyone who contributed to the upkeep of the light.
