More about this scene
Positioned in the playing field of the school in Wharf Lane, our photographer looks towards the school buildings erected in 1878 in approved Gothic style. Modern buildings for the school, Greenfylde School, now occupy the playing field. Beyond is the late 15th-century church of St Mary; its superb west tower owes its scale and magnificence to the town's medieval wool prosperity, and is something of a copy of Wells Cathedral's sublime crossing tower.
