The eclectic mix of architectural styles, ranging from the thatched roof of the single-storey old post office and the slab-fronted agricultural dwelling next to it, to the generously featured buildings established during the first half of the 20th century, lend an air of long-term solidity that was subsequently supported by the discovery of evidence of both Iron Age and Romano-British settlements.

60s /Irby
Born 1959 & lived down the bottom of Coombe Road. Looking at the pics of the village I can remember the daily uphill trudge with mum to the shops. Ok I was in a pushchair on the way up but that became a shopping trolley on the way back. As I recall the shops we went to were: Newsagent/Post office - Mr.Cavanagh (pay the papers, sweets for me for later "if you behave"). General store next (forgotten the name - was it a ...see more

Rose Queen
My mum and her two sisters lived in Mill Hill Road. They moved there in 1927. The family name was Miller. In 1930 my mum Alice Miller, was Irby’s first rose queen. There are photos of the event and if I can find them I will post them on here.

Have been in contact with Arnold ? Steve ? Stephens, who lives in the USA , is the son of the late Denis Stephens and claims that he is your cousin (but you have never met ? ) a fact that he seems to regret but he did make reference to your possibly living in Caldy and your associations in the sphere of Rugby Union. He has led a very interesting life and has just recently settled down to retirement.

My Family From Irby X 😊

My dad Ralph broster was born in irby 1927 at corner farm (which is now the library ) my grandfather (pop) William (Bill)Broster ran corner farm caves farm & manor farm . Dad always used to tell me all intresting stories of growing up in irby there is still living there to this day 1 of which has the wood yard on the corner x

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
