More about this scene
This photograph was taken on or near the old wooden viaduct built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel in 1848 to take the Great Western Railway, which originally ran on a broad gauge track. In 1892 the railway was converted to standard gauge, and the viaduct was replaced by the present stone one in 1893.
