More about this scene

Kelvedon lies on the site of the Roman town of Canonium, about midway between Chelmsford and Colchester. This view looks east along the High Street, which lies on the Roman road between London and Colchester. High Street is rich in pleasing architecture, and the scene is little changed today. Kelvedon was the birthplace of Charles Haddon Spurgeon, the great Baptist preacher, son of a Kelvedon minister.
