More about this scene
Until the 1960s, most people relied on public transport, and the green-liveried buses of United Counties carried workers and shoppers in and out of town on busy timetables. Coach tours became very popular, especially to Skegness ('Skeggy') or Hunstanton ('Hunston') - usually on Sundays. They would leave at 7.30am and often would not return until 10.30pm. This is the view from Northampton Road, with the George Hotel roof visible behind the bus station.
