More about this scene
Stamford Road School can be seen in the distance. Built in 1892, it was the first Kettering school to be built under the national system for non-denominational education, but it managed to appear ecclesiastical with its imposing clock tower. Near the camera, and close to the traffic lights, we see Paul Taylor (radio and TV) and George Bird (fruit and veg). Mr Bird, who also had a stall on the market, went to Covent Garden twice a week to buy produce that would arrive by train in Kettering by lunchtime.
