More about this scene
St Edward's was completed in 1940, although the redbrick geometrical design looks post-war. Fronting London Road, it faces the entrance to St Mary's Road where the Technical College was to be built in 1955. The houses on the right, examples of the late Victorian baronial style, are an interesting contrast. It is thought that their stone came from buildings in Gold Street which were demolished in 1887.
