Living In Kilburn In 60's

A Memory of Kilburn.

We have lived in kilburn most of our lives. Lived in Hilltop Road and Iverson Road in the 60's & 70's. Does anyone remember the Phoenix Youthclub netherwood street. Spent many a great night in there. It was run by Bill. Can't remember his surname. Would love to hear from any family's living in the same area at that time.who might remember us we are a big family and probably not easy to forget. Happy memories. The newtons

My mother lived in the area in 1960. Her name was Valerie krasnuik and she met my father around this time. I have no name for him, but I believe he was Greek Cypriot. Any information would be wonderful.
Karen
There was a club by webheath flats Back in 1970 went there with my sisters loved every min lol
Hi Martin. Your right it was called the Phoenix. What was the names of your sisters I may no them. The people I knew in ther was The Daltons, The Cullens to name but a few. It's amazing to find people commenting from so long ago. Hope you are well!!!
We went to the Phoenix all the time Bill Jones ran it he died a few years ago, Roy and I are still in touch with his son Bill. Good time and friends there.
Do you remember us Newtons then. There's 8 of us. The youngest of us hung out in the Phoenix all the time. Do you no any of the family's i mentioned. Dalton so, Cullen's to name but a few. What's ur surname. Nice to hear from you x
Hi, our names are Roy n Dawn Digweed. Don't know any of those names. We used the Phoenix from1960 until late 1964 . We hung around with Colin Fouks, Denise n Lynda Smith,Ron Jackson, Brian Davis, Allen Cotton, Garry Stark, John Wallington and many more. Does that ring any bells. Roy used the fish n chip in Kingsgate rd and Stanley's newsagent. I used to go to the State dancing all the time with Lynda Smith, Breda Moore, Pamela Pratt and again many more, they were such good times.
Hiya. I no Colin Fouks very well. The Lynda Smith that you refer to did she go on to marry Gary Stark coz if so she was my best friend penny smiths sister. To much of a coincidence not to be them. I spend time with Brian Davis's brother Ray Davis. I don't no Ron Jackson as well as his brother Charlie. I see these people all the time except Lynda Smith & Gary Stark have both passed away. Very sad.
Yes yes yes .OMG, knew Lynda had died but not Garry, Lynda spent the night at my house on the evening before I married Roy. Ray made a wedding present for Roy and I. We came back to London in 2011 for the first time since 1971 we stayed with Billy Jones ( Bills son) and it was so good to visit all the old places from our teen years, we are Australians now. It's so good to know someone that can relate to our good years as teenagers in the UK we were so lucky would not change anything from that time soooooo good. Please say hi to Colin for us we meet up with him and his wife in 2011 on our visit. This is so good. Thank you x
Those two Linda & Gary were inseparable. I could never have imagined them with anyone else. Did you no a Mick James or a Robbie French they were good friends with Gary.!,! Maybe you didn't. I was so pleasantly surprised when you made a responded to me on this site I never thought anyone would reply. You obviously married here what made you go to Australia & what part? It's amazing to here from someone who knew Kilburn at the same time as me. That fish & chip shop in kingsgate road was our hang out. A bag of chips & crackling. Great memories. Great times. Thank you for replying x

Hi Pauline, we didn't know Garry's friends. It was pure chance I went on to this websit. Was just looking for anything to do with the State and just saw this and gave it a go. Then when I scrolled down the words Pheonix jumped out at me and I had to read more. Your comments where just amazing it was like OMG there's someone out there that has been where we have and knows what we did.
Roy and I got married in the UK in 1966. Roys older sister was living in Perth, and we needed to move to a bigger house, so, we decided to move to Perth with Roys mum and our then 5 year old daughter thinking give it a go for 2 years. So we emigrated and never can back. My mum made the move here 2 years later.
Roy used to buy the same food from the fish n chip too.
Yes it is good to talk to you too, and yes amazing that we know more or less the same people.
Take care
Dawn n Roy
Hi Dawn n Roy. Wow what a big life changing decision you made to give Australia a go and it very much sounds like you made the right decision. I'm still shocked that by a fluke you saw my memory of Kilburn. I too was just sitting here & stumbled onto this website and I left the message. The fact I got a response was amazing. Did you both live in Kilburn Dawn ?Have you got brothers & sisters? We are getting ready for xmas as you must be except ours will be a cold one & yours probably on the beach. How lucky are you. It's intriguing to think your on the other side of the world from me & yet ur early years & mine were spent practically up the red from each other. Lovely to hear from you again.
Love Pauline x
Hi Pauline, yes couldn't agree more with what you said, was meant to be. I lived in Cricklewood, Mora rd and Roy lived in Gasgony Ave. Roy had 1 much older sister and I had a much older brother and sister, all are no longer with us. We love Australia, but miss the great bus and trains in the UK, as not the amount of people like UK these are not as regular in there timetables and you really need to drive. Yes as you said we too are getting ready for Christmas, I really miss home at this time. Our 2 granddaughters (19 & 23) have told me that never ever am I allowed to cook anything but an English Christmas dinner with the lot, not that I would do anything different than that anyway. It's sometimes to hot to go to the beach as it can get as hot as 40 deg Celsius not good. Do you know an Alf Taylor he ran the Iverson Soccer club all the boys played for the Iverson then, a John Dempsey ( he played for Chelsea, Roy went to school with him and the team he still supports), Allen OKeefe they all played too.
Talk soon
Love Dawn n Roy x
Hi dawn & Roy. How strange that you mention cricklewood that's where I live now. I live in Westbere Rd opposite Hampstead School. I've been here for 20years. Argh you have 2 granddaughters. I've got 2 granddaughters (14 & 6) & 2 grandsons (19 & 12). When I got this latest message from you I was like OMG Iverson rd. I lived at 95 Iverson Rd right opposite the park & knew Alfie Taylor & we used to watch the football from our window. Did Roy no 2 blokes Roy Clapp or Fred Chapman. Fred who lived in Iverson Rd was best mates with John Dempsey how weird is that. Football was and still is a big passion of mine Johny Haynes who played for Fulham & England was my cousin. His mum & my dad were brother & sister. Sadly he died 9yrs ago in a tragic car accident. He was the first England player to get Β£100 a week wages. How weird does that sound now. They have a statue outside Fulham of him & Have named a stand after him. My eldest brother Brian who is 65 is the spit of him. Our house tho is Chelsea mad. Really lovely to hear from you.
Kind regards
Pauline x
Hi Pauline. This gets more and more exciting as it goes on, love it. Roy thinks he remembers Roy Clapp, he remembers all about Johny Haynes without any doubt. This is just amazing. All my family lived near Woodgreen and Tottenham, so are all Spurs supporters, in fact my older brother was the PR guy for Spurs many years ago so I'm told, his son hates soccer, shame.
We take it in turns for Christmas dinner, so are at our Sharon's house this year. Where we live is great, it's a private estate of 230 houses for anyone over 45, no children. The houses are small but who needs a big house to clean, not me, been there done that. It's about 20 mins drive to our Sharon's and our old house, which is a lot different from just around the corner, I miss being further away, but, you have to do what's best for you. Most houses here put up Christmas lights outside and it looks soooooo good, in fact our Lauren ( 23 year old granddaughter ) is coming up for dinner on Thursday (works around the corner from us) to see have a walk around and see all the lights.
Love to hear from you any time.
Take care.
Dawn x
Hi Dawn.
Your right it does get more exciting & interesting as we talk more. I have 5 brothers who all love football. The eldest two are Fulham mad because of Johny Haynes. Then we have twin brothers who are Chelsea mad & our youngest brother who is 49 is Spurs mad. We met so many footballers (all the old ones haha) when Johny was alive. I met bobby Moore Jimmy greaves bobby charlton but to name a few when I went to his mums (my aunties in Epsom) but obviously didn't appreciate who they were because I was young. So as you can imagine footballs a big part of our family.
My eldest brother Brian Newton was known by the name Sam Newton he was a postman and his sorting office was Kilburn. He worked there for 40yrs . It's a wonder Roy doesn't no him.
My nephew is 29 & lives in Gascony Avenue with his fiancΓ©. How crazy is that. Where you live sounds lovely Dawn. But it's strange I couldn't think of living anywhere but here but it's a lot to do with all my sisters & brothers living near. We are all so close. We all congregate in a working men's club called the DOB done our bit working men's club maygrove rd. Don't no if you've heard
Of it. My mum and dad frequented it so we was kind of brought up going there. Now our kids have there events there and our kids children also. You will have to give me some more names to see if I no them. It's great reminiscing. But please tell me if your busy Dawn don't want to annoy a Kilburn girl haha.
Anyway enjoy Thursday with your granddaughter & if your up for still messaging I hope to hear from you soon.
Kind regards
Pauline x
It's always to good to hear from you it's like good memories, love it. No Roy doesn't know that name. The DOB we know really well, from 1964 to 1971 we used it a lot, in fact from 1966 we took our Sharon there every Boxing Day and Bill Jones who ran the Pheonix would always take our Sharon (and from when she was about 2 years old) he would buy her a snowball.
Please never ever think that Iwouldn't have the time to answer you this is just so good .
Poor Lauren never made it tonight as everyone at work had at some time this week been sick with gastro and guess who had it today, yes Lauren. Never mind if she is ok tomorrow night she will come up.
Please reply anytime.
Love Dawn x
Hi it's me again πŸ˜‚ Hope Lauren is feeling better poor thing. We was in the DOB last night. It was my birthday yesterday I was 63. My siblings put on a spread. We had a good singsong but I'm really tired. Left at 3 got to bed at 4. I'm on cloud nine today tho because my youngest daughter Charlotte who is 29 told me on Friday she is expecting her second child. She's 5 weeks pregnant. I'm absolutely thrilled her little girl is 6. My other daughter Victoria is 40 & is a teacher for the deaf she's told me don't look at me mum I'm having no more Grrr haha. So I turned to Charlotte. So Dawn on my birthday yesterday I was told I'm gonna be a nana again. It's wonderful news after a hard couple of months. We've had some heartache. My brothers son was tragically killed in July he was 33. He had a row with his girlfriend so walked out went to Camden got drunk phoned her to say could he come back to talk she said no. He went anyway. Got the last train to Watford but got on the wronge train. Ended up in Milton Keynes got off. It was the last train. After stepping off the train it pulled out he walked in a zig zag motion right onto the track CCTV showed he couldn't get up and he was hit by a freight train. We have all been distraught. Don't think my brother & sis-in-law will ever get over it there bereft. Just had the inquest she recorded accidental death. So after so much heartbreak it is a nice event to look forward to. I'm absolutely thrilled. Anyway, sorry for the downer Dawn. Xmas round the corner I'm so busy. It's Charlottes birthday xmas eve & she's staying the nite so it will be lovely. What's your plans for new yr do u go out.
Regards Pauline xx
Hi Pauline. Good to hear from you. Yes Lauren is fine thanks although a lot of people have come down with the same thing. Happy birthday and what great news, you really did need some from what you wrote, so so sad.
We are at our Sharon's for Christmas dinner this year, ( a 20 min drive from us) Boxing Day we have just a couple of couples come over in the early evening, used to have more people but over the years things change and we are happy with the way things are. We have a dance at the club house where we live on New Year's Eve good fun as I still love to dance, even thought I'll be 70 next July, what's in a number?
The weather here today has reached 37 and on its way up to 39, so it's stay in inside with the aircons on, tomorrow the same, but, Christmas Day is only going to be 27 thank god.
Hope you and your family have a great Christmas and new Year.
Lots of love talk to you soon
Love Dawn xx
Hi Dawn.
Glad to hear that Lauren is feeling better just in time for xmas. I'm just waiting for my Charlotte. It's 4.30pm xmas eve & it's her birthday & she's on her way to me. So I'm looking forward to seeing her.
Gosh it sounds really hot there but u must be used to it by now.
Wishing you & your family A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS.
Hope you have a wonderful time. Enjoy it and have fun.
I want to hear all about it when it's over.
All my love

Happy New Year. Hope you and your family had a good Christmas and New Year as we did. Went shopping on Boxing Day which I have never ever done before, got a few bargains was good fun. Back to normal now. The weather here is sooooooooo hot, every day has been 34 or more and is going to be till next Saturday, hate it. Looking out on the veranda it looks very dull might get rain haha. It makes it very humid when it's like this with any luck might not get that hot.
We're off to see Star Wars today so should be good. Hope to catch up with our Sharon as she has her 6 week annual summer leave from the school where she works. They went away for about 5 days with friends should be home now will ring her later today.
Look after yourself.
Love Dawn
Happy new year to you & Roy.
Sorry I'm a bit late messaging but it's been quite a hectic Christmas & new year. My daughter Victoria was 40 on Dec 14th & her husband took her away to Cornwall to a hotel that laid on a xmas eve dinner xmas day & Boxing Day. Normally she would be with us but her two boys were with there dad so she said her new husband wanted to go away for her 40th. The thing is Dawn she had an accident. She slipped on the bloody rocks watching the surfers and has broke her thumb in two places. One of the bones is the Pincer bone it's the one that you use when you grab something so we saw a plastic surgeon Thursday and he put it in a splint for a week to wait for the swelling to go down. We go back this Thursday and they haven't ruled out an op. Don't no if I told you but she's a teacher for the deaf so she's definitely off for two weeks as she can't sign and has had strict instructions the hand has to be elevated totally and her thumb not to be moved. Not that she can move it with the splint on it. so we've had lots of tears coz she's in a lot of pain. Hopefully things will improve soon.
I was with Ray Davis New Year's Eve in the DOB I kept meaning to ask him if he remembered you but there was so much going on I left without asking him. πŸ˜‚ He's very funny has a very dry sense of humour he's a lovely guy. We had a get night.
Gosh Dawn it sounds very hot there. I'm not too good with severe heat because I get migraines. It's been very very mild here Nov Dec we could go out without coats which it is very weird. Today I took all my decorations down and it looks so bare. This is the time of year that I don't like when everything goes quiet. But this sat we have an event going on in the DOB (bloody hell Dawn you must think I spend all my time in there but I promise I don't lol. ) The ironic thing is I'm tee-total I've never drunk although all my family are drinkers. But I love a dance and I'm the last on the dance floor. I'm one of eight and the only non drinker.Anyway every year as a family we celebrate my mums passing 15th Jan by going to the club we pair up for a darts competition all the ladies in our family bring food and we have a great day. We've been doing it for 7years. We bought a trophy so the winner gets that. It's great fun and it's a way to remember our parents.
Anyway Dawn just off to see my sister who lives in Ariel road round the corner from the club. So il sign off.
Hope Sharon got home safe.
Spk soon
Lots of love Pauline xxx
Hi Pauline, Hope your daughter is going to be better soon.
It's amazing as Roy and I worked for years with Special Needs children at a special school, our Sharon works at the High School she went to, she is working with Special Needs children but in the main stream.
Sharon and family had a great few days away and got home safe.
Our Lauren had a close incounter with a small shark in the sea, but all well, she made that much noise that it swam away really quickly, thank God.
Glad you enjoy dancing I love it too and never miss the chance to get on the dance floor. We were always at the DOB too.
Next time you see Ray can you tell him that we still have the foot stall that he made us for our wedding, had recovered a few times though.
The weather gets to me at times too, as long as it cools down of a night don't mind, so far so good as its cooled down quite a bit by about 7.30 at night. Used to love when Imwas younger, but not that much now.
As I said hope your daughter Victoria gets better soon.
Speak to you soon.
Love Dawn

Hiya Dawn.
Went back to the hospital with my Vicky yesterday there pleased with her but I think it's gonna be slow going. She's got a different splint on it (bright pink you can see her coming πŸ˜‚ But still not allowed to work.
My other daughter Charlotte had to have an emergency scan today coz they thought she may be having twins. I have twin brothers her dads got twin brothers and she was one of a twin although I lost it at 7months. She's really big and only 2 months but they confirmed there's just one baby. Think she's a bit relieved 😁.
Bloody hell a shark. That would freak me out forever. So glad she's ok.
I got locked in my car last night. Nobody around I really panicked. It was 11.30 I drove into my drive took the key out of the ignition and all the locks clicked shut. I tried to open the doors but nothing happened. Its central locking and I thought God I'm in trouble here . Looked in my bag and no mobile I had left it at home. I really panicked so I honked the horn for ages and then bugger me the car alarm started. My neighbour came out and all she could see was me waving my arms like a nut case she realised something was wronge so rang my doorbell to wake my husband. In the meantime he had heard the commotion and said he was looking to see who was making such a racket and it was me. (Whoops 😏) he was saying press the fob I was saying I am I am just get me out. All of a sudden it clicked and I opened the door. When I got out the car I'd woken 4 sets of neighbours. I felt sooh embarrased. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I told him I'm not getting in that car again until you test the car fob. The battery had gone. It could only happen to me Dawn. I walked in saying to everyone sorry sorry panic over go back to bed hahaha.
Got that fun day in the club tomorrow Ray should be there so I will definitely tell him we are In touch. I think he will be shocked. I'l let you no his response.
Have a good weekend.Lots of love xxx
Hi Pauline, Glad all ok with your Vicky and Charlotte the kids sure know who to keep us on our toes don't they.
Haha, sorry but what a crack up with the car, that's me all over, just the thing that would happen to me.
Weather cooler today thank God, but more heat to come so I believe. Of course with the heat come the bush fires, not sure if you have seen it on the UK news but it took just 7 mins for a town to be burnt down, 1 person missing and 2 poor old men burnt to death in their home. The land in places here is so dry that a lightning strike does this, and of course some people just like setting the bush on fine,( huge fines for that). Our nephew and his family lost everything just over a year ago because of a fire as did a lot of other people in the same place. They made the news and photos of him on the roof with a garden hose watering the roof down, but no good. They all had to leave and when they returned the next day everything was gone, so so sad. But, they had a fabulous big new house built with all the lastest fire prevention things they needed, even a big concrete room under the house they can survive in if a big fire goes through again, which is possible. Glad we don't live there ( up in the hills), plenty of people do though, it's not a small town either.
Would love to be there to see Ray's face, thanks for that.
We are off to our apartment in Bali for 2 weeks with friends in a couple of months time, so looking forward to that. We were lucky enough to go there a couple of times last year, great spot.
You look after yourself, love talking to you.
Love Dawn x
Hi Dawn
Jesus I did see those bush fires. It's enough to break your heart. Most people I no can lose everything & I really feel for them.
We've had terrible weather here rain rain & more rain floods up north especially the Cotswalds & like with you & those bush fires people have lost everything & our bloody government slow to react as always.
Did I ask you what part of Australia you live Dawn I'm sure I did.
Still haven't seen Ray which is very unusual for him not to be in the club. Mind you everyone we've spoke too has been hit by this terrible flu. Sore throats coughs & colds. Weather was very mild for December but all of a sudden the cold weather has hit and it's absolutely freezing.
How lovely to be looking forward to Bali I bet it's beautiful there.
I'm in the middle of decorating the hall & living room at the moment Dawn and you no when you think to ur self it seemed a good idea at the time but GEEZ πŸ˜‚ Well this is one of them times... It's taking shape now but all last week we were stepping over each other tempers flared. My son in law painted & papered all last week & charlottes partner is here today painting the hall. It's looking lovely carpets being put down this Thursday & new suite coming Friday. I will be glad when it's done.
Myself & Owen went to his mums in Bedford for the weekend to leave the boys to it. I couldn't stand the mess any longer. We was talking about the decorating and he was sounding very ungrateful so I just lost it. His mum looked at me like I'd lost the plot & of course was horrified I was screaming at her precious son so I just looked at her & said don't even think about making a comment. 😏She quickly looked away. Of course it was over as soon as it had started I think we're both frustrated at all the disruption but it will look lovely when it's finished.
Just off to Currys for a tv bracket so il sign off for now.
Sending lots of love
Hope to hear soon
Love Pauline xx
Hi Pauline. Bet your hall and lounge look great now, we've just bought new lights for our lounge and dinning room.
Our weather has been really crazy, rain for 3 days on and off the other week, and then up the temperature creeps, at tonight at 8.30it was still 34c, thank goodness for air conditioning, tomorrow its surpossed to be only 29c and stormy but who knows anything can happen.
We live in Perth WA the hot State.
Yes Bali is beautiful the people as well as the scenery. We have been going there on and off for about 30 years now and still love it. We were lucky enough to go 3 times last year. Will be spending 2 weeks there this time, if our family can all get the time of work together later in the year we'll all stay at our timeshare for the
first time together, so fingers crossed.
You take care and talk to you again soon
Love Dawn X

Hi Dawn
Lounge is looking lovely all fresh & new. The only problem with that is you look around and the next room looks grubby good job we did the hall too. I've just come back from a Hen weekend in Bath. It is a fabulous place. 17 of us stayed in a 3storey 6 bed house. It wasn't too manic but I think the bride to be had a get time. It's my nephew who's getting married 19th Feb.
I was really tired when I got home Sunday I suppose you don't sleep very well in a strange bed & also all u can here is girls laughing. But it was fun.
Brian (our eldest) is 66 sat so wer going to the club for a drink. I'm hoping to see Ray. I haven't seen him since new yrs Eve can't wait to tell him about you.
Hope everyone's well. Roy & ur family.
Just off to do some shopping I'm looking for a dress for the wedding so wish me luck.😊
Sending lots of love.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Love Pauline xxx
Hi Pauline, yes I know just what you mean. Sounds like a fun weekend glad you had a good time not surprised you're feeling tired haha.
We went out for dinner last night to celebrate our youngest granddaughters (Caitlin) 20th birthday God makes you feel old.
Looks like we're in for some really hot weather from now on, it's been really nice the past few days, but from tomorrow it's going to be 35 and by Monday its going up to 41, not happy about that but this is what it's like in February even though we are leaving
summer behind, March is the beginning of our Autumn thank goodness.
Hope you get your dress I love shopping it's good fun.
We are fine thanks hope you all are too.
Roys going down the farm with a mate on Tuesday for a few days to help with the cows calving, he loves that, so I'll have a few days to myself. Out to dinner Monday night so as Roys taking his car on Tuesday he'll have to make sure he only has a few drinks haha.
You take care, talk soon
Love Dawn x
Hi Dawn
20 aye. Where does the time go. My eldest grandson was 19 in January but it only seems like yesterday we was taking him to the swings. Now he talks to me about night clubs and girls and it's like I'm talking to someone else's boy. You must feel that to.
I was thinking how do you take to such hot weather but you must be used to it by now. It fascinates me to think you was a Kilburn girl now there you are having spent more of your life in Australia than here. You obviously have the accent. It's just strange where life takes you. You left & I stayed.
Yes I got my dress. It's pretty. It's light blue with swallows all over it. Gonna wear white shoes n bag and white accessorise.
Was in the club last night, as I say for my brother Brian's birthday and I learnt that it was also Ray's birthday too. I never knew that. Can't believe that since we've been communicating I haven't seen him.
Can't wait to tell him of our chats.
That sounds lovely Roy going down on the farm. It sounds idiylic. What a calm stress less life it sounds.
It's nice to have some time to yourself. Just to re-charge your batteries.
Owen (my hubby) is a grab driver (Roy would prob know what that is) and all this week he's been on call. He's had to go out quiet a lot but although to him I'm like, oh no poor you secretly I'm thinking now I get to watch my programmes 😊
Enjoy your dinner out. Is it a place you go to often.
I love going out to dinner. Now the kids have flown the nest we do it often.
Went with my Charlotte Friday for her 12week scan. Everything's fine but it's amazing how clear these scans are now. It's legs and arms were clearly seen moving about. We asked if he knew the sex and he said ! It seems like a boy but wait til your 20wk scan & we can tell u for sure. So not sure what to make of that really but wer all very excited about a new bubba. It's due 18th August.
Well il sign off for now Dawn. Have a lovely eve tomorrow and I hope to hear from you soon.
Much love Pauline xxx
Just browsing the frith site as we lived in Kilburn in the 60's.
We lived at 89 Iverson Road (Ground Floor), the 1st floor was where the Clapp's lived, it was Bert and caroline with their sons Jimmy and Roy.
We lived there between 1959-1965 then we we moved to South London.
I've got a photo of Caroline with my two little sisters.
I'm going to carry on browsing as it's interesting what people remember.
I'll have to remember to write down my memories and add some old photos, as my grandad ran the greengrocers at Carlton Vale (his surname is Achilles)
Hi my names Pauline. Don't no if you knew our family (the Newtons) but we lived in 95 Iverson Rd. We moved into the house in late 1964. A big family I'm one of eight. Roy Clapp became a really good friend of mine and when he married I used to see him and his wife Christine but sadly I think they divorced. He moved with his mum and dad to just off west end lane and I moved to Maida Vale where sadly we lost contact. He was really lovely. I didn't no Jimmy he was older. Did you no Roy's best friend Fred Chapman who lived a few doors down. I'm in touch with a woman who saw my memories of the 60's on this website & we've been in touch for 6months as she was a Kilburn girl but emigrated to Australia. Nice to hear from you. Best wishes Pauline x
Hi Pauline, good to hear from you, glad you got your outfit sounds great.
Well Roy didn't get down the farm until this Monday and is working hard. Have just spoken to him and they have looped tress down and had 4 calves born last night, which are doing well.
The farms over here are so different from in the UK, here they're sunburnt and dry as we don't get much rain. Ian whose farm they're on used to manage what we can a station ( which means it's really really big ) no matter what direction you went in you were a 2 hour drive from anything at all. Not my idea of fun believe me.
Yes I do have an Aussie accent, we pronounce words differently and have different names for things here and that's from state to state even.
The longer I'm here though the more I miss home, couldn't live in London but the outskirts maybe, but that's not going to happen as I couldn't leave my girls here, and Roy would never go back to live I don't think anyway.
The dinner was great had never been before it's a new pub, but will go again for sure.
Meet our Caitlin in her lunch break, was nice as she has her life and girl friends so don't see to much of her as it should be, but lunch was good and had a laugh.
Been 40 c again today am really over all this hot weather believe me, where Roy is he said was lovely and he's only about 3 hours drive away.
Always go to have a chat and keep in touch with home, love it.
You take care, talk soon.

Hi Dawn
Just come back from my nephews wedding in Reading. We went Thursday stayed at the Madjeski Millenium Hotel nextdoor to the Reading Football Stadium. Beautiful hotel. Wedding was Friday. Had a fab time. Bride was very 60's looking plain but beautiful flowing dress hair tied back with lots of flowers in it. Not a traditional bride but she looked gorgeous. Got back yesterday but was really tired. So just chilling today.
Isant it strange when you say you could never leave Australia & I could never leave London. Different for you I suppose you've spent more time in Australia than here.
It's lovely that I get to hear about Australia from a London girl 😊
Got my Charlottes gender scan in two weeks so I will let you no. It's very exciting and I can't wait.
My Victoria has her scan also Monday week as its not getting any better and after six weeks and an x-Ray it's still broken. There more worried about the ligaments. She's very frustrated coz she can't sign with the deaf children yet and is still on light duties.
I will let you no that outcome as well.
Hope everyone is ok your end
Much love speak soon
Pauline xxx
Hi Pauline. Always good to hear from, glad the wedding went well, and most of all you had a good time.
Look forward to finding out about Charlottes scan too.
Poor Victoria it must so frustrating for her, hope all goes well for her too.
Our Lauren was made redundant last week because the therapist she works with had been told not enough work and not going to replace her, so Lauren had to go as well. It's the story of Lauren's work life, poor kid, but, she always finds a job. She likes to work private which is more money, but government dentistry is more stable. She has done surgery which she loves so that's a feather in her cap( hopefully).
Roy and I are trying to sort out something for our 50th wedding anniversary, which is on the 1st of April, I can hear you laughing, well I think we are married haha, just want our Sharon, Stephen, the 2 girls and boyfriends and a couple of our close friends and partners, we don't do big. A nice dinner will do us fine, but not sure what Roy and our Sharon are up to.
Have are getting our air conditioner replaced in the lounge tomorrow as the old one is stuffed. It's Autumn as from tomorrow , thank God cooler weather, great. It's cheaper to use the reverse aircon than anything else in winter and summer, we have solar panels on the roof and that's so good as we haven't paid an electric bill for 16 months now and that's really got when you think of how long the aircon is on in the summer.
Hope all goes well with your family.
Lots of love.

Hi Dawn
Was just watching the news apparently there has been an earthquake in Indonesia and some part of Western Australia. Can you tell me anymore. So scary Dawn. Hope everyone there is ok x
Poor Lauren it's such a shame. Especially if you like or love the job. The job situation here is really bad. Such uncertain times. I hope she finds something soon. Fingers crossed.
50 years married Dawn WOW. That is something to be proud of. Well done you. I will message you on the day. It's definitely something to celebrate. Did you marry in church here or register office and where abouts. I no you talked of Linda and Gary when you talked about your wedding but not sure if you said where it was.
My sis-in-law is 60 on the 1st April. We are having a party in ......... Yes you've guessed it DOB πŸ€— So I will raise a glass to both of you ❀️
Vicky is finally seeing the surgeon this coming Monday. The scan showed the ligament can't be seen but the bone is still sticking up and is still broken and not healing. So the physio has cancelled her appoint for tomor (Thursday) as she doesn't want to move it around (which she has been doing for 7weeks) and we see the consultant Monday. In a way I'm hoping they operate because that way there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel hopefully. Coz after an op wer hoping then it will start healing.
Excited about Charlottes gender scan tomor. I will message you with the results.
It's Mother's Day this Sunday so I'm being taken out for dinner. Victoria is away for the weekend her friend is 40 so there all going to Bognor so I won't see her but Charlotte is taking me out which will be lovely.
Is it Mother's Day Sunday for you too.
Just off to the cemetery to put some flowers down for my mum. It's st David's day mum was Welsh so we do it every year.
Keep safe Dawn and the family and i will message you after the scan tomor.
Lots of love
Pauline xxx
Hi Dawn
Hope your ok since I messaged you about that earthquake. I'm sure you are as we would have heard more about it.
Thought I would let you no Charlotte is having a BOY. Very excited as you no she has a girl Mia.
It was lovely to see the baby in 4D it's so amazingly clear. Mia who is 6 was super excited. Now we can go out and pick up some blue bits and plan a bit more.
Victoria goes into hospital this Thursday for her op. The consultant said 4x-Ray's and a scan later show the damage is more extensive than first thought. The bone has not only broke it's also shattered. The ligaments that they thought were attached slightly can't been see at all and she's damaged the joint. Basically the thumb is very mashed up but they have to try and re-build the thumb. We've had loads of tears coz it means another 6weeks off work and after that it will be looked at again. He said this op won't guarantee it gets fixed and if not she has to go in again for another op where he will fuse the thumb back together but she will lose the movement in her thumb. It's all a big worry but we have to hope he's good at what he does and fixes these problems.
I will keep you posted Dawn.
As I say. I hope you are all well.
Sending you my love.
Pauline xxx
Hi Pauline. Thank you for your concern but we didn't get anything from the earthquake.
Great news about Charlottes baby, hope all goes well for Victoria's operation, it's amazing what they can do these days.
Lauren has been to 3 interviews so far and another 3 to do this week so as you say fingers crossed.
Roy and I got married in Willesden Registry Office, we had no money and both our Mums were widows, money was very tight.
We have a great place for our Anniversary lunch, we decided to celebrate on the 3 which is a Sunday. We have invited about 14 people ( family n just a few close friends) 2 of our close friends can't make it as they are on away for 7 weeks cruising and visiting relatives in the UK, so they will be spitting chips as they'll miss it, but we're away with them in May. Our Sharon and girls are up to something as they wanted all our photos from way back when and knowing them the laughs will be on us, love em
It works out better this way some one else cleans and cooks instead of me and it's not that expensive for us either as we are footing the bill. They have wedding receptions there all the time as well as a regular restaurant. When they found out it was our 50 anniversary they said they would do all the tables and chairs for and god knows what else, getting quite excited.
Mother's Day here is in May, my mum is in a special pot in our garden as she loved her garden, when the grand kids where little I used to catch them talking to the pot in the garden it was so nice to see and hear.
Even though as I said last time it's our Autumn, the temperature today was 39 and tomorrow is going to be 40 I am well and truely over this hot weather believe me. Because it changes all the time from cooler to really hot people are getting sick, crook tummies, cold like symptoms ect.
Anyway I hope all goes well for your girls.
Take care, lots of love Dawn
Xx

Hi Dawn
I'm so sorry that I haven't been in touch for a few weeks. A set of circumstances. Firstly my computer broke and that's been in being fixed then Charlotte went down with bloody Swine Flu. She phoned me saying that she couldn't breath properly & had a really bad throat. I rang the doctors and he said come up. He took her temperature and we had to go to the hospital. She was kept in over night. First they thought it was a blood clot then her heart so they did tests but they came be ok. They took loads of blood & coz she went to the ward they did a nose and throat swab. They let her out the next day then good Friday we got a call the swabs had come by it was a strain of swine flu. We were gobsmacked. They put her on this Tamiflu then a week later Antibiotics. I had her with me for 10days and little one and she went home Sunday. She was so ill Dawn she couldn't lift her head but she had to keep going bk every other day to have the baby checked. I thought of you on Sunday and was wondering how your Anniversary went. When we had Sunday dinner I said to Char before you go home please raise a glass to Dawn & Roy so me Char and my husband Owen raised our glass to you both. She's lots better now but I've caught a bad chest and throat obviously from her. It's nothing like what she had just a bad dose of the flu hopefully so I'm on the couch got no energy feeling sorry for myself 😐. Vicky so proud was cancelled until June (that's another story) until June they want her to try Intense Therapy first Grrr. Anyway Dawn hope you didn't wonder to much where I was. Hope all the family are ok. I want to hear all about your day, every detail. Hope you got spoilt.
Hope to hear from you very soon.
Lots of love
Pauline xxxxxx
Vickys operation was cancelled I mean 😜 Xxx
Hi Pauline so sorry to hear about then family, hope all gets better really soon for you all ,no wonder your so tired.
Thanks for having a drink for us, and yes we had a good day. We treated 13 of us to lunch at a Restaurant in the Swan Valley about 1/2 hours drive from us, we have been there a few times,it's like being in the country. Our Lauren made a cake and decorated it for us was beautiful. When we were ready to leave our Sharon jumped in our car and drove us to a Resort where the family had booked us for the night. The family stayed for a while and then went home as they had work the next day. Was a great way to end the week. The Wednesday before unfortunatly we had to have our dog Milo put to sleep as he had cancer that we had no idea he had got and all the outcomes for him where not good, he's the only dog that has really broke our hearts. We've loved all our dogs, but he was such a people friendly thing a real cuddly dog but everyone said that staffys are always like that. Not sure if we will get another dog, not for a while yet anyway.
Our Lauren has a new job, again, she is working in town (Perth) for a dentist that she had worked for before at another place, so hopefully it will be for longer. Like all jobs if they don't get the clients last on first off, which always seems to be out Lauren, but thank goodness she was only out of work for about 4-6 weeks.
You and your family take care of yourselves, talk again soon
Love Dawn x
Hi Dawn
Sorry it's taken a while. Not been to good for the last two weeks. I have had a really bad chest infection. Probably caught a bug or two from Charlotte. Started with a sore throat then it went to my chest. Never smoked in my life and don't get many coughs but this was terrible. I completely lost my voice (much to OWENS delight πŸ€— I felt absolutely dreadful. It was so irritating it drove me mad. Went to the doctors she said you got Laryngitis and bad chest and gave me antibiotics that I've taken a million times before. I took one when I got in and within an hr my lip was swelling up. I never for one minute thought it might be the tablets. I thought I might have been bitten as it had been quiet a nice day. Just before I went to bed I took another but noticed a rash on my chest. I had worn a new track suit to the docs so I thought coz I hadn't washed it that it must be that. When I woke the rash was a bit worse on my arms a bit and stomache. Can't believe alarm bells still didn't ring so I took my first one of the day. Within an hr again my hand felt funny fingers felt fat then I noticed my foot swelling. Owen said Paul I think it may be the tablets. As he said it I got this dreadful pain in my rib cage and back. I rang the pharmacy who said Pauline stop the tablets now you've had an ellergic reaction. I was stunned that has never happens before. Within two hours my hand and foot seemed better so I laid on the couch and Owen went to work. I fell asleep but When I woke Dawn OMG you could not put a pin between the rash it was everywhere. Legs arms back. But also, although I had a cough my chest felt tight. I rang Owen he came home and we went to A&E where they kept me all night. Gave me anti histamines It wa quiet frightening how quickly things developed. So no more penicillin for me. I've been on antibiotics for two weeks and feeling a lot better than I did. X-ray was clear which was good coz I had pneumonia 5yrs ago and I and my doc thought that might be back but luckily it was all clear. So just a nasty bout πŸ™„
Poor you with your lovely dog. It's heartbreaking Dawn I totally get how devastating it is. We had a dog for 13yrs King Charles... Sam. He was so good with the girls and any kids. We lost him in 2007 and words can't explain how the four of us felt it's like losing a child and people who haven't got dogs just don't understand. But I sympathise.
I hope you feeling a little better and not so sad. Sending you a hug. I'm so glad Lauren has got another job it's hard looking. Jobs are so hard to get here. Thank the Lord I don't have to do that anymore. Owen still working but I'm not.
Anyway Hun hope you are all ok. It's my mother in laws 81st birthday Sunday so wer off to Bedford for the weekend so I'm just off out to pickier up some bits.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Lots of love
Pauline xxxxx
Hi Pauline, so sorry to hear about your rough time with the medication, was reading it to Roy and he got it right straight away as he's the same with Penicillin always has been. Glad to hear that all is ok now, but it must have sooooo frightening not knowing what was wrong.
So far so good with Lauren's job, as you said doesn't matter what you do jobs are so hard to get as lots of people out of work and heaps of people going for the same interviews.
Thanks for your thoughts about Milo, he was so different to any other dog we'ave had. He loved people and was so friendly to everyone, no good as a guard dog would let anyone in, he was a Staffy, so say no more. Usually by now we would be thinking of getting another dog, but, not sure we want to. We have got the freedom to go away for a few days on the spur of the moment and might do that for a while, we go overseas about twice a year too and kennels are not cheap, but saying that you never know. Perhaps when we stop travelling we will get a little dog, might take a few years.
It's been a bit like winter here for about a week now it's been rain rain n more rain even though it's a few months away yet, mind you we need it soooooo much.
Hope your girls are all ok, we're looking forward to our trip to Bali for 16 days soon. Roy n I are meeting up will a teacher friend that we used to work with, he had started his own Special Needs School in Bali so looking forward to catching up with him and his wife.
Please take care of yourself and hope your back to normal real soon.
Till next time
Lots of love
Dawn xx
Hiya Dawn
Feeling lots better but still on Antibiotics this is my 3rd week because of this cough. Hopefully this will clear it.
Your right about the dog. It was a very difficult decision with us. Do we get another dog do we not. But your right also about the travelling. Now the kids have flown the nest we couldn't decide if we wanted to commit again because we like to just decide last minute to go off & stay somewhere. It's so emotional when you lose them so for me that was a big factor. But having said that I'd have another but Owen says not yet. Maybe like you when the galavanting stops πŸ™„ Haha.
Just gonna pick my grandson up from school he's coming for the weekend. It's bank holiday this Monday so we've got him til Sunday then Owen & myself want Monday to ourselves (not that it ever works out like that Dawn) 😌 There's always someone showing up with me having 7 siblings 32 neices & nephews it's a challenge.
Anyway Hun have a lovely weekend
Speak soon
Lots of love
Pauline xxx
Glad you're feeling better, it takes a while to get back to normal when you've been that sick.
It's Mother's Day tomorrow for us here so going to our Sharon's n Steves for brunch, which will be nice. It's countdown for us as we go to Bali in 2 weeks time for 16 days and looking forward to it.
Have had heaps of rain the last couple of days which we so need, but that hasn't stopped Roy from going to the golf club and playing, he's been lucky with the weather, mind you he'd go anyway, haha.
Not too much happening at the moment, got a workman coming on Monday to put new locks on some windows and an outside glass door just boring things that need doing nothing exciting.
Our Sharon has bought herself a new car as her other car died on her last week, they are looking to buy a caravan so they can take off on long weekends and holidays which will be good for them both.
You continue to get better and will talk soon.
Love Dawn x
Hi Dawn
So sorry I haven't been in touch my brother had booked 2weeks in Isle of White and due to work commitments couldn't go so we bought the holiday from him. We've had a fabulous time so unexpected. Nobody could go on such short notice except me & Owen so with 2days notice we packed a bag and went. But all the time I was there I kept thinking I bet Dawn is wondering where I've got too. 😏 By the time you get this message your probably on your travels with your friends. I think you said you was going to Bali I'm not sure if I've got that right but if I have I'm very jealous.
How's everyone. Fine I hope. Let me no your well and if I don't hear from you soon I will no your away.
Look forward to hearing from you soon.
Just wanted you to no I've been away but we are all fine
Lots of love

Hi Pauline no worries as we had trouble in Bali and couldn't get the site up n I'm thinking you must be thinking what the hell. Hope you had a good time, we had a great time too. The 2 weeks where fantastic, lots to eat n drink as you do. Had a bit of a scare 5 mins from boarding the plan and alarms going crazy. We had to go outside and where there for 1/2 an hour, an alarm went off by accident, not funny. Weather was bad planes after us had to be delayed, we got away 3/4 of an hour late but arrived only 1/4 hour late so all ok. Got home last night at 12.00 but it's only a 3 n1/2 hour flight anyway. We have booked for next year already, it's good as we stay 1 week in friends timeshare n then we move into ours, so instead of having just 1 week we all end up having 2 weeks, good fun. Roy is away for 15 days in August for a golfing trip with friends, he's going to Chang Mia in Thailand, so looking forward to having time to myself. He phones or does FaceTime me every night when he's away
Sorry about that hit the wrong button, haha. Hope your family all ok.
It's a public holiday here tomorrow think our Sharon n Caitlin coming up for a visit, Caitlin n friend of to Bali next Sunday for a week they are so excited, they have been a few times before but always good to go again.
Take care love hearing from you.

Hi pauline hope all is well. Did you get my comments from the 5 June? Was having a it of trouble with this web site. Then when we got back home this web site was hard to get back into. Weather here at the moment is rain rain n more rain, even had the heating on all day to day and that's so unusual. Are picking up our friends tomorrow from their cruise around Bali, but at the moment they don't know when they will be docking as weather bad. Should be in at 7.30am, but have been told could be 6.00pm tomorrow evening, so people have flieghts to catch to get back to the other side of Australia not happy chappies. She said last night they had to go really slow as no stablizers, glad it's her n not me.
Ok take care.

Hi Dawn
I have had so much trouble trying to get into this website. I have been trying for weeks was just about to give up 😏 But I sent an email to this website I've re-set my password and hey presto I'm back. I'm gonna give you my email address Dawn & if you have an email address perhaps I could have it. I said to Owen I don't like Dawn to think I'm just not replying it was so frustrating. My email address is newtonp@hotmail.co.uk that way if this happens again I can email.
Our weather has been dreadful too rain & more rain. But that's the English weather πŸ™„ Are your friends still with you. I feel very out the loop. My daughter charlotte has 5weeks to go for the baby coming. I'm so excited. She's naming him Amore you no after the song 'when the moon hits ur eye like a big piece of pie that's Amore πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€— everything set. She had a scan yest coz her midwife said baby was laying across her stomache & he was big and may have to be turned. So u can imagine our delight that the scan shows his head down low in the pelvis so he's ready. πŸ€”
We've had his baby shower last week it was a fab day. Lots of games and presides but she's very tired and ready now.
We have a benefit night to nite for my nephew who was killed on the railway track at Kingsbury Football Club starting with a football match for everyone roll on roll off so that should be fun followed by a dj food drink a raffle & auction. All money's will go to MIND.
I will let you no how it goes. It will be very emotional.
Anyway Dawn hope Roy is well & the rest of the family are too.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Lots of love
