More about this scene

Once a haunt of smugglers, this pub became popular with parties, often from afar. Up to a hundred would fill the Club Room for dances and socials. Frank Stevens ran it for many years until 1947, then his wife ran it until 1962. They served cream teas and whortleberry tart on the terrace in summer.
