More about this scene

In 1837, the White Horse was just a small beer house. It was recorded as 'a cottage and a garden owned by John Marshall of Hitchin and occupied by Sarah Buckle, widow'. Nearby stood the Two Brewers public house. As trade at the White Horse flourished, that at the Two Brewers declined, and it was closed in 1915.
