More about this scene
Baron Serlo de Burg built the first castle at Knaresborough, and during the reign of King John the fortress was also a royal arsenal for the manufacture of crossbow quarrels. The castle was extensively rebuilt in the early years of Edward II's reign, after the lordship had been given to the King's favourite, Piers Gaveston. Richard II was held here, before being taken to Pontefract Castle where he was murdered.
