More about this scene
Moored at the Lakeside steamer terminal is the 'Swift', 150ft long, 21ft wide and claimed to be capable of carrying 780 passengers. Launched in 1900, she was at that time the biggest boat ever to sail on the lake. Visible across the lake is the large boathouse and the grounds at Fell Foot, the estate formerly owned by Col Ridehalgh, a great boating enthusiast. It is now owned and managed as a visitor attraction by the National Trust.
