In the summer this celebrated granite promontory, England's most westerly point, is inundated with visitors. 'The First and Last Refreshment House in England' doubtless took full advantage of the captive audience. Ruskin saw only disorder in its geology, 'a dizzy whirl of rushing, writhing, tortured, undirected rage, coiling in an anarchy of enormous power'.
