The Family Pub
A Memory of Laxfield.
The King's Head also known as The Low House was in the Felgate family for a number of years. My great grandma and grandad ran this pub along with the blacksmiths. They also brought up 14 children there goodness knows how. My grandma was Ruby Felgate, one of the many daughters. I recall visiting both as a child and adult when it was run by my great aunt Hazel and great uncle Stephen. It used to scare me to death when I was young, going upstairs to the bathroom. My uncle liked to have stuffed birds and fish in glass cases along the landing which always seemed so dark and scary. Now when we visit it's nice to see family photos still adorn the walls and the old front room is now the main restaurant. So glad to see it has remained unchanged. Brings back so many memories. Long may it continue.
