Leicester, Bandstand, Abbey Park c.1955

More about this scene
Bandstands are, by their very nature, fascinating pieces of municipal equipment. Very rarely are they to be found in use, but nevertheless they seem to generate vivid images of Victorian England at peace with itself, nannies with prams exercising in the park, and lovers sitting entranced by red-coated bandsmen. This rather weedy example has a touch of the orient built into its roof, but as usual it sits in silence.
