Leighton Buzzard, The Cross c.1965

More about this scene
Given a decade of fresh ideas (see L211008 on the previous pages), the area around Leighton Buzzard's 15th-century Market Cross is once again a focal point and meeting place. A bus stop is resited; the Cross Keys is given a face-lift by the brewery; the area around the Cross is paved, and seats are added for the benefit of those taking a rest from shopping. With two neighbouring properties up for sale, the family butcher in the right background is possibly finding itself under development pressure.
