I Remember This Coronation, 2nd June 1953.

A Memory of Lincoln.

The biggest reason I remember the 1953 Coronation was because it was the first time I had ever seen a television. I was only very young in 1953 but I was privileged to be able to watch Queen Elizabeth's Coronation live on a television. The tv was not my Mum & Dad's tv, they could not afford one in 1953, few people could, but belonged to a "wealthy" Aunt & Uncle who lived close by. My first impression of tv was "wow, isn't it small", not sure of the exact measurements but something like 10 x 10 or 12 x 12inch screen. The whole tv was huge, to a little kid, in a big polished wooden cabinet with material covering the speaker and at the top this tiny screen that flickered black & white pictures. I must admit I do not remember most of the Coronation, it went on for ages! I can remember seeing the Queen, sat on a big chair with a crown on her head, the orb in one hand and the sceptre in the other with all these fancy "to me" gowns on. This event is possibly my first memory from my very young past, but boy, I remember it like yesterday! I wouldn't change it for the world. Now I am very privileged to see the Coronation of King Charles, who, by the way, is 1 year older than me!!
