More about this scene
After buying the farmhouse of Townlands Farm in 1875, Charles Kempe promptly began to enlarge the property in a style in keeping with the existing small house. The property was renamed Old Place, with the original building called West Wing. The decorated column in the garden is a sundial, said to be a copy of the one at Pembroke College, Oxford where Kempe studied. On the top of the sundial is a pelican feeding her young, symbolically representing piety. Sir David Hunt, who in 1977 won the television programme `Mastermind`, lived here.
