Little Common, the name now used to describe this area, did not appear on maps before 1813. The name may well be synonymous with a piece of land known anciently as Slyders Common. The Wheatsheaf Inn, for many years an important staging post on the Brighton to Hastings route, was rebuilt in 1886.
