Ackrill Corner

The photo adjacent to your memory is not Ackrill corner but there are two photos of the corner dated 1955 among the 17 Francis Frith photos shown. The cottage shown is right on the corner which is at the intersection of Church Rd (Little Sandhurst) with the Wokingham Rd
It has never been a street name.
I would imagine your Grandfather lived in the cottage and that the locals chose to refer to the intersection as Ackrill's because he lived there.
I lived in the High Street with my parents at about that time in a bungalow called Rainbow Dell. It was a special place now sadly spoiled as ever by appalling council planning. Sam Preece

Thanks for your reply. I have a post card that has the name printed on it so I assumed it was Ackrill Corner legally as otherwise I would think that it would have been names as such without authe.ntication from actual street names at that time. My grandfather was born there in 1898 and his parents lived there from the mid 1850's . I very much appreciate the feedback from actual residents and hope there might still be someone who has personal knowledge of my grandfather and his family. He fought in WW1 in the tank corp and was wounded and gassed in a chlorine gas attack but survived to live out his life in Worthing susses until his 88th year
