Childhood Memories

A Memory of Littlehampton.

We came to Littlehampton in the Summers of 1957-61. We stayed at Mrs Squires B n B in Albert Road. I spent my time either on the beach, the fun fair or just walking around the town (I was about 8 years old at the time). My dad and I played on the Putting Green/Crazy Golf on West Green, when did this close?. I remember a speedboat called Miss Littlehampton and a severe gale one night which almost blew the Helter Skelter in to the River Arun. We also fished from Baltic Wharf. I remember the shopping Arcade in the High Street and the Railway Station being constructed entirely out of timber. The was also a Hall on West Green where Variety shows took place. I've spent a couple of holidays here in the last year, the promenade/beach are much the same but the town itself has changed considerably (not for the better)

Comments & Feedback

I was looking for something quite different when I came upon this post. Had to comment as my son has just bought the house in Albert Road that Mrs Squires lived in. She was a lovely Lady I remember her well. I passed her house on the way to the shops often, she always had a friendly word about my boys.I didn't know she did B&B, where did she put you all it's not a big house.
I remember another family staying when we were there and an outside toilet. Mrs Squires had two children, Tony and Janet. Tony is a Littlehampton councillor. Mrs Squires husband, Bert? worked on a local farm/smallholding. The last year we stayed there, Mrs Squires has an inside toilet and bathroom installed, ah, luxury!
It's a small world
