There is no such thing as an ordinary street in this town. True, the shops may have similar uses, but the Victorians made the most of the spa town by building wide, airy thoroughfares. The wealth of hotels and cafes, like the two shown here, contrasts sharply with the lack of pubs—pubs were considered inappropriate for the town's image.
