This view is remarkably similar today. The Burton's on the right is essentially the same shop front, although a different proprietor uses it now. Pedestrianisation and the dreary paving this inevitably brings, and a street-length covered walkway, would appear to be the main changes from the scene in the 1950s.

had great fun and a wonderful learning experience working on the town's buses as a conductor during university holidays in the late 60s just before so much changed in the town.

Greenfield Road was known as Greenfield Villas before World War II. I lived and grew up in 4 Greenfield Villas with my grandparents, Mr & Mrs W A Davies, my mother, Nancy, and sister, Gertrude, from 1937 until 1947. Having been born in Ann Street in 1962, my memories of the surrounding area are quite vivid, including Waddles Foundry; the metal beating from the works would often wake me in the morning. It was on land just behind the Bull pub, close to Waddles, that I have one of my earliest memories. Hi, My name was Christine Pakenham, and my mother took me over to Lannelli Wales by boat to meet my grandparents in 1958. My mom was a war bride, from 31 New Dock road. Her mom was Mary Jane Williams (nee Jones) and her dad was Ernest Williams. She married my dad, a Canadian serviceman, in July of 1945.
