More about this scene
This beautifully proportioned stone bridge (Y Bont Fawr means 'the big bridge'), built over the Afon Conwy in 1636, has been a well-known beauty spot and subject for artists for centuries. The imposing Victoria Hotel shows the popularity of the Conwy Valley with Victorian tourists, who visited the town by coach, char-a-banc and train. The cart tracks in the foreground show a more humble mode of travel used by locals. The town also had a thriving wool, malting and tannery trade.
