More about this scene
A mountain track from Longtown was known as 'rhiw cwrw' because it brought beer (cwrw) to the monks. Today's visitors can repair to the bar in the basement of the hotel, which occupies part of the west range of the abbey. Its roof probably dates from the late 18th century, but the steeper pitch of an earlier medieval roof can be seen in the tower wall behind it.
