More about this scene

As we look across toward the village, we can see that the land is rough scrubland, nothing like the fertile valleys which the visitor will come to know. This is largely because this area, being close to Llanelli, was sitting on a bed of pure anthracite coal, which stunted the growth of vegetation. On the right-hand side near the skyline is the village's small Baptist chapel.
