More about this scene
These riverside houses have been replaced by the Albert Embankment, which was built between 1866 and 1870. To the left are the Lambeth potteries, which had operated since Elizabeth I's reign. It was in a Thames-side house here that the Gunpowder Plot conspirators allegedly met in 1605, within sight of the Houses of Parliament on the opposite bank.
