Here we see the equestrian statue of George IV, who was Prince Regent at the time of the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. It was commissioned from Sir Francis Chantrey in 1829, and it was originally to go on top of Marble Arch, which then stood in front of Buckingham Palace. Eventually the statue was set up here 'temporarily' in 1843.
