More about this scene
The City of London was defended by one of London's oldest and finest buildings, the Tower of London. William the Conqueror's White Tower keep, with its later jaunty ogee-roofed corner turrets, dominates the scene. Dating from the late 11th century, it is still the focus of the castle.
