Patience The Grocer.
A Memory of Loughton.
Does anyone else remember Mr. Patience shop? I used to save my bus fare and walk home from Oaklands School so I could buy my favourite sweets. Either Frys CHOCOLATE cream, or a little tin of Ovaltine tablets. This was in the early 50s. I also remember when they converted the room at the back of the shop into a coffee shop. In my high school years we teenagers would meet here on a Saturday morning. Wearing our flourescent socks and basketball shoes? Later as a very young mother I would call in with my daughter Suzie.
Moved to Australia in 1971 but returned for a visit in 1982 and saw the demise of the good old High Street
