My Grandparents Lived Here!

A Memory of Lower Hardwick.

As a toddler, I can just remember being taken to visit them, John and Alice Rawbone. They lived, I believe, in a farmhouse where they grew apples for home made cider with a pig in the orchard. This was sold to Bulmers Cider. I subsequently learnt from my Father that Bulmers eventually told their cider manufacturers that, in order to produce the same type each year, they would only buy the apples in future. Shame!
I also remember being in one of their rooms with a howling draft beneath a door and a sausage being put down to reduce it.
My grandparents eventually retired - again, they had left Warwickshire where he was a gamekeeper, and moved to Whitbourne, Worcestershire.
