More about this scene
The timber building with steps leading down from the cliff (right) is the Pakefield lifeboat shed, which was washed away by 1905. The Ordnance Survey maps of 1884 and 1905 show a massive loss of coastline along the cliff. The lifeboat was called the 'Two Sisters, Mary and Hannah'; she was built at Lowestoft and was in service 1872-1910. The fishermen relax on the cliff top, whilst their boats are drawn up on the beach.
