These gardens lay north of Claremont Pier and in front of Wellington Esplanade, on the left. In 1925 the area was described as 'lined with houses of a superior character, many of which are retained by county families for summer occupation'. The gardens were provided with ornamental ponds and a central shelter. In Claremont Road either the cabby or his fare wait patiently.
