'. . . come you home of Monday When Ludlow market hums . . .' Once this area was the entrance to Ludlow's market, with traders paying tolls at the nearby Tolsey (or toll booth). The ashes of A E Housman, who wrote the above lines in 'A Shropshire Lad', are buried here in St Lawrence's churchyard.
