More about this scene
Uplyme tends to be overshadowed by its famous Dorset neighbour Lyme Regis, though in past times the latter was known as Nether Lyme to distinguish it from the village higher up the valley of the Lim. A walk to Uplyme has always been a favourite excursion for visitors to Lyme. Jane Austen, who loved the locality, wrote of 'the woody varieties of the cheerful village of Uplyme.'
