Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

Please Note: Our offices and factory are now closed until Monday 5th January when we will be pleased to deal with any queries that have arisen during the holiday period.

More about this scene

Mill Street was so named because it was at the bottom of this street in 1743 that Charles Roe established his silk mill (not visible here). Previously, silk production had been very much a cottage industry, but by the middle of the 18th century, mills powered at first by water and then by steam changed everything.

My Aunt, Lily Hewitt, owned a 19th century greengrocer's shop down on the left side of this view. She and her Husband Frank (who died in the 1940's) had run the shop from well before WWII, and went most days to Manchester Market for fresh produce.
