Remebering Maindy

A Memory of Maindy.

I fondly remember Maindy. I was born in Mynachdy Road which is just down the road from Maindy. I worked in the big Wonderloaf bakery on Maindy Road, it was a great bakery I made some great friends there. My sister used to live in Minister Street not far from the bakery. There was another bakery at the bottom of Maindy road called the Golden Crust and Wonderloaf bought this bakery.I used to drink in the Maindy Hotel on North Road and used to go to Cathays High School. We used to play in Maindy Park and the Maindy stadium..great days. Some of my school pals were Gary Champion, Andrew Lewis, Robert Tanner, Steven Ham, Paul Wakeman, and Martin Davies. Best girl in the class was Susan Chamberlin; her sister Wendy was a looker too. In Maindy Road was the Oxo factory as well. When I was a kid I used to go to the Wonderloaf and the forman would give me half a dozen loaves for two shillings; he knew I was from a big family of eleven, he was very kind to me. Great times. I used to go across from the bakery to a little shop where the shopkeeper used to make lovely filled rolls at a reasonable price. When I was about twelve I used to deliver newspapers around Maindy, so I have a fair past in the area. If anybody has any pictures of the Wonderloaf or the Golden Crust or other pics of Maindy I would love to see them. Thanks in advance, or if you know me please get in touch, would be nice to speak to you. Thanks again, Lyndon Dyer
