More about this scene
Malmesbury is one of Wiltshire's larger towns. Its abbey is set on a hilltop, where a castle once also stood until it was demolished in 1216. The Abbey church was founded in the 7th century. The tower dominates the countryside, reminding people of the strength of authority of the early church.
