More about this scene
Marden lies nine miles south of Maidstone. In this quintessential village scene, we see the village bobby standing next to the red telephone box, with a café selling ice creams behind. The white Unicorn public house shows in the distance with a tractor and trailer parked outside. There used to be 14 pubs in the village, but since the decline of hop picking, many have gone out of business. In the churchyard can be found a well-preserved set of stocks, which were once used for the punishment of local offenders.
