More about this scene
This view was taken from St Mary's Church. Tucked in behind the Bear is an early 19th-century rebuilding of a timber house, which may have survived the Great Fire. It probably had a jetty like that at Dormy House in Kingsbury Street. The building beyond, 2-4 High Street, is dated 1739, and was at that time a milk bar.
