More about this scene

Stewart Park was originally the grounds of Marton Hall, the magnificent residence of Henry Bolckow which he built in the 1850s, and filled with valuable works of art. As the Bolckows died out, Councillor Thomas Dormand Stewart paid £25,000 for the house and grounds in 1923 and presented them to the town. Marton Hall was demolished in 1960. The very large conservatory we see here was built in 1963 and demolished in 1997. The Captain Cook Birthplace Museum was built here in 1978, and is well worth a visit.
