The Bird In Hand
A Memory of Menithwood.
When I was a child in the ‘50’s around 5 years old my aunt and uncle ran this pub together with a couple of pigs, goats, chickens, geese and a cherry orchard! It was such fun spending weeks of school summer holidays there together with my sister. I can remember going into the wood which I think was opposite the pub, or maybe down the lane to get water from the natural spring there to use for drinking and in the bar. I have so many happy memories of early mornings walking to the farm with the barman to get fresh milk and picking mushrooms in the fields and occasionally catching fish in the stream! Such lovely memories !
