I still have my post office savings book stamped Mere Warminster Wilts. I deposited 5/-.
The telephonist use to sit almost in the doorway with a little switchboard our number was Mere 282.
I think it was the shop with the blind next to the arch.
It's possibly even later. I can remember having a child to stay with us from the above, her name was Rosemary Lemon and I would love to find her.
My dad was at the children's home in Mere from about 1952 to 1957/8. I am unable to find any information on the home on the internet, I do know the house isn't there anymore as it was demolished to build a road, but wondered if anyone has any old photos they could upload onto this site. I know my dad would love to see them :)
