More about this scene

This attractive cul-de-sac running north to the gates of Merstham House, where rampant lion statues guard the way, acquired its name as a joke. The renowned actor Seymour Hicks, and his wife Ellaline Terriss, were living in the 15th-century Old Forge House by the gates at the time when they were appearing in the play Quality Street during the Edwardian era, and this association led to the name being adopted.
