A Memory of Mexborough.

My memories of Mexborough were playing by the canal down ferry boat lane of church street , canal barges would come along and we would open the old bridge and let them through and the boat man would throw us pennies for our help. We would go over old Denaby woods and collect bluebells to bring home, the woods were wonderful and carpeted in blue it was magical .As a family of seven we lived in a two up two down on church street times were hard and we did not have much but we survived. My dad had an allotment behind the parish hall and a few hens and any surplus veg we sold for pocket money that we saved to go to the Saturday cinema . We left Mexborough in 1956 and never looked back now we are all in our seventies and most of us live by the sea East Yorkshire and Lancashire . Larrain.
