Old Maypole And The Trench Digger

A Memory of Middleton Tyas.

I remember the Old Maypole that used to stand on the green, I can't remember when it was felled. It seemed huge to me so am thinking that it must have been when I was very young (born 1947). I lived in Green View at the time (now Duccot House). In the mid fifties (I think), a great trench digger was brought into the village to put mains water into the village. The pipes were stored on the village green with a load of bricks and we had great fun re-arranging things once the workmen had gone home. In 1957 we moved down to Lamberry Banks and I was then a member of the Bottom End gang. Any Top End gang members recall our 'battles'?
